Kerseys Employment Specialist Updates on Job Retention Scheme

Employment Specialist at Kerseys updates us on the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme.

On Friday, 13 November 2020, The Treasury published a direction dealing with the most recent extension of the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (also known as the Furlough Scheme).

The latest direction formally extends the Furlough Scheme from 1 November 2020 until 31 March 2021. In addition, it sets out how the Furlough Scheme will work from 1 November 2020 until 31 January 2021 (a new direction will be published to cover the period 1 February 2021 to 31 March 2021).

The scheme works in much the same way as the previous furlough scheme and it covers those who are not working all of their normal hours as well as those who are not working at all for their employer.

There are, however, some key changes to the previous scheme including:

(1) the fact that the current Furlough Scheme does not apply to those employees who are serving their notice and

(2) it is now a condition of making a claim that the employer consents to the HMRC publishing details of their claim on the internet.
