COVID-19 Right to Work Checks – Announcement

As of 26th August 2021,  the government has announced that further to the previous guidance that it issued on 18th June 2021 that the temporary adjusted checks measures will be extended until 5th April 2022.  The new guidance on right to work checks will be issued in advance of 6th April 2022.

This will allow the Right to Work Scheme to be able to continue in a way to support employers whilst a more permanent solution is sought.

These temporary changes are:

  • checks can currently be carried out over video calls
  • job applicants and existing workers can send scanned documents or a photo of documents for checks using email or a mobile app, rather than sending originals
  • employers should use the Home Office Employer Checking Service if a prospective or existing employee cannot provide any of the accepted documents.
