Down Syndrome Sock Days

World Down Syndrome Day

World Down Syndrome Day (WDSD) is an annual March 21 celebration and global awareness day officially observed by the United Nations since 2012. March 21 was selected to signify the uniqueness of the triplication (trisomy) of the 21st chromosome which causes Down syndrome.

Odd socks were chosen as a symbol for WDSD because chromosomes are shaped like socks and those with Down Syndrome have an extra one.

Thank you to all the staff at Kerseys for your support and donations with a special mention to Karen Skene for organising the event and cake baking skills along with Daisy who also put her baking skills to the test to help to raise money for the charity.
