Reviewing your Will, Lasting Power of Attorney
Reviewing your Will, Lasting Power of Attorney
Meet Keira Andrews, Legal Executive at Kersey Solicitors in Stowmarket located on Tavern Street with car parking available on site.
Not everyone realises the importance of having a Will to carry out your wishes. At Kerseys Solicitors, we will prepare your Will and or Lasting Power of Attorney for you and will give you all the advice and assistance you need to make sure you can have peace of mind about where your assets will go when you pass away. One of our trained and experienced staff will give you impartial advice on the appointment of your Executors, the costs involved and any tax matters, including advice on care home fee planning if needed.
Tax advice is well worth taking and sooner rather than later. Action taken early on can often mean more money for your family and less for the taxman.
Many people believe that if you do not have a Will, everything will just go to their husband or wife, but this is not necessarily the case. There are strict rules on who will inherit if you do not set up a Will and these have been devised by the Government. It is simpler and more effective to put your own Will in place. If you are co-habiting or have children with someone you are not married to, it is even more important to make sure your assets pass the way you want them to so that your loved ones do not lose out.
Even if you have a current Will, we would recommend that you review it every couple of years or so to make sure it is up to date, particularly if your circumstances change i.e. you marry, get divorced, you start a family or your estate increases perhaps because of a windfall.
When reviewing your Will, we can also discuss with you Lasting Powers of Attorney. You may have seen information about these on the television or been nagged by family members to get them sorted. LPAs ensure that you are taken care of in relation to your property and finances and health and welfare, during your lifetime, if you were to lose capacity. They make sure, when at your most vulnerable, those who love you most are able to take care of you. We also have options for people who do not have any close family.
Keira is keen to take a personal approach with her clients and likes to get to know them properly so she can give the best advice possible. There is no problem too great that it cannot be talked through and managed.
