Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme – Annual Leave Update
The government has updated the guidance (again) to provide some clarity on the issue of taking annual leave while on furlough leave.
The employee’s guidance now says that it is possible for furloughed employees to take annual leave while on furlough leave.
In that situation their employer must ‘top up’ their pay to 100% of normal pay.
The guidance does not go into whether employers can compel their employees to take annual leave, thus using up their holiday entitlement while they are away from work.
The government is keeping the scheme under review, so it may provide further guidance on this in the future.
